Discover the rich history and cultural significance of sites nestled in the hills of Dili.

Begin your day with a visit to Dare Memorial Museum and Café, offering panoramic views of the city. Learn about the Australian soldiers and Timorese ‘kriados’ who fought against the Japanese during WWII. Descend to Cristo Rei, where a colossal statue of Jesus stands atop a 590-step staircase, providing breathtaking 360-degree vistas of the city. This iconic landmark is a must-visit. Enjoy a fresh coconut at the bottom of Cristo Rei before heading to Ahi Matan for a traditional Timorese lunch. Return to Dili for your onward flight.

Tourism has emerged as a key program for national development as Timor-Leste seeks to reduce its dependence on petroleum, which accounts for about 70% of GDP and over 80% of annual income. The tourism sector provides 1 in 10 jobs globally and contributes nearly $10 billion to global GDP. Creating a tourist model that benefits the local community and environment is vital for the development of sustainable tourism in Timor-Leste.

"I can highly recommend a canyoning trip with Maddog Adventures. The scenery, waterfalls and rock formations are amazing and the area feels so untouched and remote. The guides were very professional and safety conscious. Thanks for showing us this stunning hidden slice of Timor."
